Seascapes and people are my favorite subjects and painting in acrylics is my chosen medium. I find acrylics allow me vast freedom of expression and very forgiving,... I can change this light, correct that shape, invent drama, create peace, whatever.
I became interested in painting when I was eight years old or so. My mom gave me a paint by number set for Christmas and I was enthralled. After completing the formulated farmland landscape feeling confident and optimistic, I used the leftover oil paints and a piece of plywood for an attempt of a male portrait. To emphasize a masculine face - it looked too female no matter what I did - I finished it with a beard. In the end it resembled a likeness of a certain man adorning the front page of the Holy Bible. That piece of plywood was later needed to complete the building of a wall in our basement. So, there it lives, a face behind a wall. If the wall is ever taken down and my biblical image is discovered maybe Chemainus will have a new tourist attraction.
Many busy years later after school, family and career life, I finally found leisure time. I attended various local art courses and am once again enthralled with painting.
Inspiration and encouragement comes from my friends at Crofton Art Group and I'm grateful to have such a friendly learning environment.
