Our 2026 Spring Show and Sale was held on Mother's Day Weekend, May 8th (Friday) and May 9th (Saturday)
Well, the numbers are in and once again the Crofton Art Group’s 2026 Spring Show and Sale was another success. It was estimated that well over 200 people came through our doors during our two-day event, and over 80% of our participating artists now have their artwork beautifying other homes. However, it’s not necessarily the numbers that make events like this a success… it’s the intangibles.
As per the words of our art group President Sue Bosecker, “It takes a whole Art Group to put on a successful show and you all pitched in. Our group seems to work by osmosis and moves in unison to get the work done”. The reins of “Show Coordinator” were passed along this year from Susan Law to Char Miller (accompanied by Merrily Allanson). Char also passed along her thanks to everyone who pitched in saying, “We truly couldn't have pulled it off without all of you”.
Extra work was done this year in preparation for the spring show. Display boards had been refurbished and new tablecloths purchased for the display tables. Many hands, both from long-time members and new members alike, made the large setup and takedown jobs into something very manageable. It takes a whole team of members to organize and hang all the paintings, and lots of behind-the-scenes prep work to have the kitchen duties run smoothly, ensuring tasty treats and beverages for our visitors.
The venue that we use for our shows and weekly sessions, the Crofton Seniors Centre, has made an upgrade to their HVAC system. This presented a new challenge for our shows as we were asked to keep the entry door closed whereas in past years, we have had it propped open. So, we turned this lemon into lemonade by adding a person outside to greet, direct and open the door for our visitors. Then, once inside, they are greeted again by our members at the front desk. It made a nice transition from outside to inside for people taking in the show.
Once again, our North Cowichan Mayor (Rob Douglas) came out to support the show and put out a facebook post letting his followers know about it. Skye Ryan from CHEK 6 News also paid a visit and a story on the Crofton Art Group appeared later that night on the island news. Neighbouring art groups “Maple Bay Painters” and “Chemainus Art Group” also helped promote our show. Many thanks to all.
The biggest factor that made our show so successful though is the people who came to attend the event. We enjoyed seeing all the smiling faces and enjoyed all those who took the time to chat with us. For those of you who put in your selection for “People’s Choice”, the painting most voted for was “Watching” by Laine McLellan. The door prize, “West Coast Mist” by Colleen Smith, was won by Elliot Bobinski.
So, a big thank you from all of us, and we look forward to seeing you all at our next show in the fall.

Crofton Art Group finds Zen ahead of Fall Show and Sale
The Crofton Art Group received some very sad news during the week of our Spring Show.
Robert “Bob” Oscar had passed away. Bob was the husband of our life-time club member Mary Oscar.
For many years Bob was our "Go-To-Guy".
He made our display pieces, fixed whatever was broken, and he always had his trusty truck ready to transport our stands and bits and pieces.
Every club needs a silent hero and Bob was ours. Such a quiet guy with a gentle smile, we surely do miss him.

Our Spring Show and Sale was held on May 9th and 10th.
Another successful show.
Many friends and family members were present at this year's show, with lots of positive comments from our visitors.
These are some of the comments when asked what they liked about our show...
The location is great - lots of parking, right by the water and Seawalk, and easy to find.
The lighting was perfect - the gallery was well lit so it was easy to see the displays.
The people are so friendly - the artists were very approachable and friendly. Everyone was so polite.
The prices were very reasonable - paintings weren't over priced, and the tiny table had something for everyone.
We enjoy putting on the Spring Show. It gives us a chance to display our work, and to interact with the public.

Fall Show and Sale 2024
Our Fall Show was held on November 2nd.
Half of our members participated in the show selling original art work, pottery and jewelry as well as many cards.
Well over 100 people came and enjoyed the show. Many stayed to chat and enjoyed the complimentary coffee and goodies.
The shows have become a local social event that many of the town's residents look forward to with each passing year.

Spring Show and Sale 2024
At our Spring Show on May 10th we had a cake cutting,
with Rob Douglas (Municipality of North Cowichan Mayor)
and Rick Lebitschnig (Crofton Community Centre President) doing the honours.
The show ran for two days, and had over 200 people come out.

The Crofton Art Group has two art shows per year!
Spring and Fall.
Held at the Crofton Senior Centre in Crofton right on the waterfront.
With a wide spread of media: oils, watercolour, acrylics, mixed media, acrylic pours
and more there is a lot to look at and choose from.
Some of our members have broadened their skills to include pottery and jewelry.
As such, these works are included in our shows.
Artists produce sizes from "teeny tinies" to large works to fill that important space in your home.
And for the less adventurous there are some very unique cards available in singles
and packages to send to those special people in your lives
or simply frame for that special place in your home.
Shows are attended by the artists giving you a lovely opportunity to meet, talk about their inspirations and media used.
While we have provided biographies, on this website, for you to learn a bit about our members
there is nothing like meeting the artist in person.
