Jack Vincent was born in a mining town in northern Quebec where his father worked in a gold mine in the early 1930’s when times were tough. After moving to Toronto and graduating from high school, he studied Mining Geology at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario with further graduate work at McGill University in Montreal. Retiring after 55 years in the mining industry, Jack and his wife Kaye settled into west coast living, moving to Chemainus to be near family.
Prospecting has the added benefit of sharpening observation skills, which in turn add to the skill of “painting what you see”: or perhaps imagine what you see.
Landscape and seascape painting in watercolour has become a rewarding pastime, but chalk pastels and acrylics are sometimes brought into the mix. Jack has benefited under the teaching of watercolour artist Peggy Burkosky and pastel artist Joan Larsen.
The weekly sessions with the Crofton Art Group offer up a wide range of learning possibilities, as well as an enjoyable venue to paint.
